President Donald Trump has accused Alaska Democrats of orchestrating a fraudulent scheme to create a second Dan Sullivan for the U.S. Senate race, calling it a ‘fraud on the American public.’ The allegations center on former Rep. Mary Peltola (D-AK) and her campaign’s alleged involvement in efforts to recruit a second Dan Sullivan to run against current Senator Daniel S. Sullivan (R-AK), according to a recent report by the New York Times.

Alleged Secret Recruitment Efforts

According to the Times, the Peltola campaign worked with individuals trying to recruit Dan Sullivan to run for Senate, as part of an effort known internally as the ‘ballot composition project.’ The report claims that the campaign’s lawyers and senior aides from the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) were involved in a months-long plan to find a second Dan Sullivan, as well as other potential spoilers, to dilute the support for the incumbent and help Peltola’s campaign.

The Peltola campaign has denied any involvement in the effort, but the report states that the plan included secret trips to remote Alaskan communities and the appearance of a mysterious Midwestern operative who used a fake name and approached potential candidates at brew pubs. The effort also included discussions about forming a new political party to attract conservative voters to the ballot.

Trump’s Accusations and Legal Claims

In a post on Truth Social, Trump claimed that the Democrats ‘illegally searched for, and recruited, a man named Dan Sullivan to run against our distinguished Republican Senator, Dan Sullivan.’ He accused the campaign of perjury, stating that the Democrats ‘lied to the Court’ and should face serious legal and political consequences.

Trump also claimed that the fake Dan Sullivan should not be on the ballot, and that Mary Peltola should be prevented from running due to the election fraud. He added that the Democrats’ false statements were made under oath, which he said makes them liable for serious consequences.

Political Reaction and Implications

Political journalist Mark Halperin expressed that the report could impact the race, stating that the exposure of the lies may have a significant effect on public perception. He noted that the allegations could shift the narrative and influence voter behavior in the state.

The controversy comes amid a broader debate over election integrity and the role of political strategy in shaping electoral outcomes. As the race heats up, the allegations could play a pivotal role in shaping the public’s perception of the candidates and their campaigns.
