Florida Democratic Senate nominee Angie Nixon faced mounting criticism after struggling to define her political identity during an interview with journalist Dasha Burns. When asked if she is a socialist, Nixon responded that she did not know, despite being a member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).
During the interview, Nixon expressed confusion about her ideological stance, stating, “I don’t know. I don’t know. Like, I don’t know.” She emphasized her personal background, describing herself as a Black woman who was a former single mom and wanted to ensure no one had to struggle the way she did. This response drew sharp criticism from Republican Sen. Ashley Moody’s campaign.
Cameron Gambini, a spokesperson for Moody, questioned Nixon’s ideological commitments in a statement to Fox News Digital. He criticized her for joining the DSA and then expressing uncertainty about her political identity. Gambini also referenced a separate controversy involving Nixon’s recent comments about Cuba, calling her a “radical lunatic who will never step foot on the Senate floor.”
Nixon’s confusion over her political identity has sparked bipartisan criticism, with opponents accusing her of inconsistency and lack of clarity. The controversy has intensified as the candidates enter the final week of Florida’s Senate race, with voters closely watching how the candidates define their positions.
Despite joining the DSA, Angie Nixon isn’t labelling herself as a socialist or a capitalist.
