Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, a Democrat, warned on Wednesday during an appearance on MS NOW’s “The Briefing” that ‘right-thinking Republicans’ are likely to support Democratic candidates in the upcoming midterm elections. Pritzker emphasized the growing concern over former President Donald Trump’s rhetoric and behavior, which he described as increasingly out of touch and alarming.
Concern Over Trump’s Behavior
Pritzker stated, ‘President Trump gives you so much material to work with, and he’s gotten to a point where everything is almost ridiculous. The things that he says, it’s clear that he is a little bit off. There’s something wrong with him. I’ve said he’s got dementia. I don’t know what’s wrong with him, but he says some things that you can hardly believe.’
He further described Trump as ‘out of touch’ and stressed the need to ‘stop him’ by securing control of at least one, if not both, houses of Congress. Pritzker believes that the upcoming midterms present a critical opportunity for Democrats to make progress, especially with the support of Independents and ‘right-thinking Republicans.’
Push for Congressional Control
According to Pritzker, the momentum for change is growing as more voters, particularly those who are not aligned with the current administration, are beginning to see the necessity of voting for Democrats. He said, ‘Every day he has a rally like the one you just showed is another day when we’re going to pick up yet another seat. And it’s one of the things that I’m trying to do, which is to expand the field of opportunity for Democrats, because, Independents and right-thinking Republicans are starting to say, we have got to vote in Democrats, just to add a minimum, put some stopping point to what Donald Trump is doing to them from Washington, DC. Change has got to come.’
Pritzker’s remarks reflect a broader strategy among Democratic leaders to mobilize swing voters and Independents to counter Trump’s influence in the midterms. His comments suggest a recognition that the political landscape is shifting, and that the upcoming elections could be a turning point for the party.
