Former leaders urge Democrats to focus on accountability and investigations after winning midterms.

Former Vice President Kamala Harris and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have called for a focus on accountability and investigations rather than another impeachment of President Donald Trump, should Democrats secure control of Congress in the upcoming midterm elections.
Kamala Harris Urges Tough Accountability Measures
Harris, speaking during an October 27 interview with Aaron Parnas, urged Democrats to prioritize investigations and accountability over another impeachment of Trump. She emphasized that the energy and resources should be directed toward these efforts rather than pursuing another impeachment, which she argued would not be feasible due to the lack of Senate votes needed for a conviction.
“When I say we should be ruthless, I don’t mean cruel, but we should be uncompromising,” Harris said, describing Republicans as both ruthless and cruel. She called on Democrats to stop being “genteel” about political relationships and to deliver results, such as reversing Medicaid cuts and restoring checks on the administration’s handling of the war.
Hillary Clinton Predicts Continued Threat From Trump
Clinton, during an October 28 episode of High Stakes with Kara Swisher, predicted that a Democratic Congress would investigate “him, his administration, his family, his supporters and allies.” She argued that legislation, lawsuits, and public pressure would be necessary to restrain Trump, citing outrage over a proposed streamed execution as an example of the kind of pressure that had led officials to back down.
Clinton also warned that Trump would likely blame others, demand greater party loyalty, and become more dangerous, potentially launching additional attacks on Iran that could endanger American military personnel and civilians. She described Trump as a “lame duck” and argued that he had held Republicans hostage politically for a decade, predicting that resistance within his party could grow.
“So buckle up,” Clinton said, adding that the election was only the beginning and that Democrats first needed to win before they could restrain Trump and hold him accountable. She also opposed impeaching Trump as a “sideshow” unlikely to produce a conviction, while supporting investigations into officials such as Pete Hegseth, whom she accused of politicizing the military.
