President Donald J. Trump’s administration has embraced the vision of Alexander Hamilton, emphasizing the need for an energetic executive to foster innovation and economic growth. In Federalist No. 70, Hamilton argued that energy in the executive is crucial for good government, a principle the administration has applied to its approach on artificial intelligence (AI).

AI as a National Priority

Last July, President Trump signed three AI executive orders, declaring the U.S. would ‘do whatever it takes to lead the world in artificial intelligence.’ He warned against over-regulation, stating that it could ‘kill the source of American genius and technological power.’ Secretary of State Marco Rubio echoed this sentiment, calling ‘Winning the AI Race non-negotiable.’ The resulting AI Action Plan focuses on innovation, infrastructure, and international partnerships, including faster permitting, federal land for data centers, and regulatory relief for builders.

Government Services Reimagined

In November, the Genesis Mission order brought federal scientific data and supercomputers together, marking the largest federal scientific push since the Apollo era. OSTP Director Michael Kratsios emphasized the administration’s approach of ‘responsible boldness’ in AI development. The administration also worked to streamline state regulations into a single national standard, aligning with the Constitution’s goal of a unified market.

Private Sector Commitment

The market has responded positively, with AI-related private investment reaching $1.5 trillion in the second quarter of 2024, up 25 percent from the previous year. Major tech companies are investing over $750 billion in capital spending for 2026, showing confidence in the U.S. regulatory environment. Companies are also taking responsibility, with over 250 firms pledging to fund AI education for young Americans.

Improving Citizen Access

On September 29, the President launched America.gov, an AI-powered platform designed to simplify federal services. The site allows citizens to ask questions in plain English and receive answers from official sources without needing to create an account. CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz demonstrated how the platform could help a woman enroll in Medicare, while Secretary Rubio described the new passport process as ‘no printing forms, no drugstore hostage photo, no appointment, no line.’

Hamilton’s Vision Realized

Hamilton’s vision of an energetic executive remains central to the administration’s strategy. A free market requires a government that ‘clears the path’ for innovation, supports infrastructure, and serves citizens effectively. The administration’s efforts to reduce regulatory burdens and improve public access reflect this commitment. While challenges remain, the direction is clear: the U.S. is choosing energy over feebleness, and the next chapter belongs to those who build.
