France has opened an attempted murder investigation following a Molotov cocktail attack on police during violent Halloween riots in Paris. The incident, which occurred on the strife-torn streets of the French capital, involved far-left extremist groups targeting security forces, resulting in four police officers and one gendarme being injured, with three of them suffering burns from incendiary devices.

Authorities Label Attack as Attempted Homicide

Investigators cited the attack as an “attempted homicide against persons holding public authority,” according to Le Figaro. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez called the act of throwing a Molotov cocktail at a riot police officer an “attempted murder” during the chaos of the riots.

Dramatic footage from AFP showed a homemade bomb exploding at the feet of a security force member at Porte de Charenton, slightly injuring him. In response, police deployed tear gas and conducted several baton charges to quell the unrest.

Political Reactions to the Attack

Presidential candidates Marine Le Pen (National Rally) and Bruno Retailleau (Les Républicains) condemned the attack, urging severe punishment for the perpetrators. Le Pen emphasized the need to find and punish those responsible, while Retailleau described the incident as “unbearable” and called for accountability.

Escalating Violence Across France

As reported by Breitbart News, hundreds of thousands of rioters took to the streets across France during the third consecutive weekend of violent demonstrations. The government estimated that 320,000 people protested nationwide, leading to over 560 arrests by the end of the night.

Interior ministry officials reported that radical elements in cities like Bordeaux, Toulouse, and Marseille attempted to enter city centers with the intent of carrying out vandalism and looting. The situation highlights the ongoing tensions and challenges faced by French authorities in managing the unrest.
