Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) has stated that a Democrat-led Congress would cut off funding for further military action in Iran, even with American personnel still stationed in the region. During an interview with Fox News Sunday anchor Shannon Bream, Khanna emphasized his position on defunding the Iran War, asserting that such a move would immediately lower gas prices in the United States.

Khanna’s Defunding Stance

Khanna’s comments came after Bream raised questions about an ad created by Rebellion PAC that blamed the increased cost of living in the U.S. on funding sent to Israel. While Khanna did not explicitly condemn the ad, he stated that he and Michigan Democrat Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed had both disagreed with its content.

Bream pointed out that disagreement and condemnation are not the same, prompting Khanna to shift focus to the Iran War. He claimed that high gas prices were the result of the ongoing conflict with Iran and that a Democratic Congress would stop all funding for the war immediately upon taking control of Congress.

Defunding While Troops Remain

When asked whether he would defund U.S. military operations in the region while troops are still deployed, Khanna insisted that the House and Senate should stop funding any further actions in the Iran War. He compared this to how the U.S. stopped funding operations in Vietnam, calling for a similar approach in the current conflict.

Khanna also noted that the president cannot veto such a move, as it would be handled through appropriations bills. However, he did not address the potential risks of cutting off additional funding while American personnel and assets are still engaged in operations in harm’s way.

Implications of the Defunding Plan

Khanna’s proposal raises significant concerns about the safety of U.S. troops and assets in the region. Cutting off funding for further military actions could leave them vulnerable to greater risks before the conflict is resolved. While Khanna’s stance reflects a strong anti-war sentiment, the practical implications of such a decision remain unclear and could have serious consequences for national security.
