During an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-AK) accused his Democratic opponent, Rep. Mary Peltola (D-AK), of lying about her knowledge of a ballot-stacking plot. Sullivan claimed the allegations were backed by evidence from a New York Times article, which detailed text messages between Peltola’s campaign staff and senior Democratic officials.

Sullivan Claims Peltola Was Informed of the Scheme

Sullivan stated that the New York Times article provided “receipts” for the allegations, suggesting that Peltola was aware of the scheme involving recruiting another man named Dan Sullivan to run. He emphasized that the story was not a “he said/she said” scenario, but rather a detailed account of communications between Peltola’s chief of staff, Anton McParland, and senior DCCC and DSCC officials.

“There is no way that this went on for a year that they weren’t informing her on,” Sullivan said. “It’s just a complete fabrication. And she got caught lying, and she’s still lying! To the Alaskan people, to the media, to all of us.”

Allegations of Disdain for Alaskans

Sullivan also criticized Peltola and her allies for treating Alaskans with disdain, suggesting that the alleged scheme was emblematic of a broader disregard for the state’s voters. He acknowledged the legal ambiguity of the situation but pointed to an anti-Ku Klux Klan statute as a potential legal basis for the allegations.

When asked if he would only accept the election results if he won, Sullivan responded, “No, I’m going to accept the election results.”

Broader Implications for the Senate Race

The allegations have intensified the already contentious Alaska Senate race, with both candidates vying for control of the seat. The controversy has drawn significant media attention, with the New York Times article serving as a focal point for the ongoing debate over the validity of the claims.

As the election approaches, the situation highlights the deepening political polarization and the potential impact of such allegations on voter perception and the integrity of the electoral process.
