Russian authorities have arrested a minor after a tip from the U.S. government led to the discovery of an alleged terrorist plot targeting Moscow. The Federal Security Service (FSB) announced on Sunday that the suspect, who was not identified, was detained for threatening a terrorist attack in the city.
The FSB stated it was grateful to the American side for providing the information that led to the arrest. The suspect reportedly posted photos on TikTok showing himself in tactical gear and holding a weapon, with a caption referencing the Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve in Moscow. The site, an 18th-century palace and park, was closed for technical reasons and later reopened.
Tsaritsyno Museum and Security Warnings
The Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve was evacuated during an organ concert that had only ten minutes left to go, and a later event was canceled. The U.S. Embassy in Moscow issued a warning about a credible threat of a mass casualty event at the museum, advising Americans to avoid the area and stay alert. The German embassy in Russia also issued a similar alert.
The FSB found some of the clothing and accessories from the suspect’s TikTok photos during a search of his home. His phone included a subscription to a neo-Nazi channel on Telegram and a significant number of searches related to terrorist attacks and mass killings.
The U.S. government is coordinating with Russian authorities on a response to the threat. While the suspect is a minor, the case highlights the growing intersection between international security and digital platforms, with social media playing a role in identifying potential threats.
