Rapper Common joined forces with Democrat Abdul El-Sayed during a rally in Detroit on the eve of the midterm elections, continuing his political advocacy. The event, held in support of El-Sayed’s Senate campaign, drew attention as the race in Michigan remains one of the most closely watched in the nation.

Video of Common’s performance surfaced on social media, capturing the moment as he took to the stage to rally voters. While his presence may boost El-Sayed’s visibility, the campaign’s outcome remains uncertain. Recent polls indicate El-Sayed is currently leading Republican Mike Rogers by a significant margin, with the latest data showing a 7-point lead among likely voters.

According to a statewide poll conducted by Mitchell Research & Communications for CBS Detroit, El-Sayed holds a 7-point lead over Rogers in the race for the U.S. Senate. The survey, conducted on October 26-27, reflects the sentiment of likely voters heading into the November 3 general election.

However, the campaign took an unexpected turn when Democrat Haley Stevens, who lost to El-Sayed in the primary, endorsed Rogers. In a statement, Stevens expressed her decision to support Rogers, citing concerns over the direction of El-Sayed’s campaign and its alignment with certain progressive causes.

“I don’t belong in Abdul’s campaign. I do not stand with Hasan Piker, who gets trafficked on our college campuses,” Stevens said. “What our students see, what our children see, and who we are as Michiganders is not hate. And is not what we are getting out from our Democratic nominee right now,” she added.

The endorsement has sparked renewed debate over the dynamics within the Democratic Party and the potential impact on the race. While El-Sayed’s lead persists, the shifting alliances and internal tensions reflect the high stakes of the midterms in Michigan.
