House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) has pledged to focus on the needs of everyday Americans as Democrats secured control of the House of Representatives following Tuesday’s midterm elections. Jeffries emphasized that the American public has had enough of the extremism and corruption that have plagued Congress, calling the results a ‘great American comeback.’

Jeffries Pledges to Revive American Dream

Speaking after the election results, Jeffries said, ‘The American people have spoken, all across the land. In the north, in the south, in the east, in the west, in the Midwest, from sea to shining sea the American people have spoken and made clear they’ve had enough of the extremism, enough of the corruption. They want a Congress that’s going to deliver for the American people.’

Jeffries outlined his vision for a Congress that will focus on the everyday American, promising to work on ‘a good paying job, good housing, good healthcare, a good education for your children, and then when it’s all said and done, a good retirement.’ He called this the ‘American dream’ and said House Democrats are committed to reviving it for all citizens.

Democrats Flip Multiple Seats in Key States

The Democratic Party regained control of the House with what could be their largest majority in nearly two decades. According to NBC News, Democrats needed to win a net of just three seats to take back the majority but ended up flipping many more GOP-held seats, particularly in districts that Trump carried in the 2024 election.

In Pennsylvania, three GOP incumbents were defeated, including Rep. Ryan Mackenzie in the 7th Congressional District, Rep. Rob Bresnahan in the 8th District, and Rep. Scott Perry in the 10th District. In Virginia, former Rep. Elaine Luria won back her old seat, defeating Rep. Jen Kiggans. In Colorado, state Rep. Manny Rutinel defeated GOP Rep. Gabe Evans.

President Donald Trump, in a post on Truth Social, claimed he ‘wasn’t on the Ballot’ and that if he had been, Republicans ‘would have on IN A LANDSLIDE.’ His comments reflect the growing divide between the former president and the party he once led.
