During an appearance on MS NOW’s “The Beat,” Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) expressed strong opposition to President Donald Trump, calling the midterm election results a reflection of ‘profound disgust’ across the country with Trump’s leadership. Sanders described Trump as the ‘most dangerous president in the history of the United States,’ citing his alleged disregard for the Constitution, the rule of law, and his narcissistic behavior.
Discontent with Trump’s Policies
Sanders emphasized that the election results revealed widespread dissatisfaction with Trump’s administration, which he characterized as the ‘most corrupt’ in U.S. history. He criticized Trump for starting an ‘illegal and unconstitutional’ war and for leading an administration marked by corruption. However, Sanders also noted that the election was about more than just rejecting Trump.
Focus on Economic and Social Inequality
Sanders highlighted the deep economic challenges facing American families, including the fact that 60% of people live paycheck to paycheck and 800,000 are homeless. He pointed out that the U.S. is the only major country that does not guarantee healthcare to all its citizens, and that income and wealth inequality have reached historic levels. He added that Elon Musk’s wealth exceeds that of the bottom 53% of American households, underscoring the growing concern over economic disparity.
Calls for Democratic Reform
Sanders argued that the public is not only tired of Trumpism but is also demanding that the Democratic Party take on the ‘greed of the oligarchs’ and pass legislation that benefits working families. He stressed the need for the party to address these systemic issues and to ‘demand’ concrete action from lawmakers.
