A 26-year-old Honduran man was arrested after fleeing the scene of a deadly three-vehicle crash in Polk County, Florida, which resulted in the death of a 71-year-old man and injured a 29-year-old man. The incident occurred on Monday morning near Bradley Junction, approximately 10 miles south of Mulberry.

Crash Details and Investigation

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Grevil Said Cerrato, 26, was driving a Honda sedan and abandoned his vehicle after the crash. He fled on foot and was later found and taken into custody. The sheriff’s department confirmed that Cerrato told investigators he fled because he was frightened, did not have a valid driver’s license, and was in the country illegally.

Investigators reported that a Toyota was traveling north and lost control due to poor weather conditions, crossing into southbound lanes and colliding with a Ford Focus. The Toyota then also struck the Honda, which Cerrato was driving. The 29-year-old victim, who was driving a Toyota SUV, was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash led to the closure of State Road 37 for several hours. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not yet released the names of the victims or confirmed if the Toyota driver will face charges.

Cerrato was charged with leaving the scene of a deadly crash, a first-degree felony, and driving without a valid license, a misdemeanor. He also has an immigration detainer pending.
