Trump’s Memphis Crime Crackdown Shows Sharp Drop in Violent Crime

One year after President Donald Trump launched the Memphis Safe Task Force, the city has seen a dramatic reduction in violent crime. According to data from the U.S. Marshals Service, murders have dropped by 37%, sexual assaults by 30%, robberies by 47%, and aggravated assaults by 29% since the task force was established on September 29, 2025.
Law Enforcement Success and Key Arrests
The success of the task force has been attributed to close collaboration with state officials, including Republican Governor Bill Lee and the Tennessee National Guard. The White House reported that over 13,140 arrests have been made, including 135 for murder, 1,406 for drug crimes, 1,303 for gun offenses, and 125 for sex offenses. Among those arrested were 1,461 known gang members and 421 juveniles.
The task force also seized 2,201 firearms and located 189 missing children. Notable arrests include 25-year-old gang member China White, who was charged with two murders committed in July 2020, and 52-year-old Alex Rodriguez, an illegal Honduran migrant, for child rape and aggravated sexual battery.
Political Support and Public Approval
Polls show strong public support for the law enforcement surge in Memphis, with the effort being described as a success by both the White House and the U.S. Marshals Service. Attorney General Todd Blanche praised the task force for returning control of the city to law-abiding citizens.
White House spokeswoman Lauren Bis highlighted that the task force has restored law and order, emphasizing the impact of Trump’s leadership in making Memphis safer. The effort has also been compared to a similar crackdown in Washington, D.C., which resulted in over 16,000 arrests, including 35 murder suspects.
Continuing the Fight Against Crime
With the one-year anniversary of the Memphis Safe Task Force, the U.S. Marshals Service praised the success of the operation, stating that the task force has been even more effective in Memphis than in Washington, D.C. The continued focus on reducing violent crime and increasing public safety remains a top priority for the administration.
