On Thursday, during an appearance on CNN’s “The Arena,” Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO) claimed that President Donald Trump would “love to try to steal this election.” The remarks came as part of a discussion about potential behind-the-scenes efforts by Democrats to prepare for possible election-related emergencies.
Host Kasie Hunt asked Crow about ongoing conversations among Democrats regarding the administration’s potential plans to declare an emergency, which could grant authorities expanded powers. Crow responded by expressing his belief that individuals within the administration, including Trump and his allies, are actively working to suppress votes and disregard the will of American voters.
Crow emphasized that these actions reflect a disregard for democracy, stating, “They’re willing to do anything to hold on to power. Which, of course, is the sign of an autocracy or people that don’t care about democracy.” He added that the best defense against such efforts is a large margin of victory, highlighting the importance of winning decisively in upcoming elections.
As the battleground chair for House Democrats, Crow described his efforts over the past 18 months to recruit and mentor candidates, stating that he has visited 11 states and is working with dozens of candidates. He underscored the significance of these efforts in the face of growing political challenges.
Crow’s comments come amid shifting polling data that suggests a potential blue wave, with Democrats anticipating a strong showing in key races. The remarks reflect growing concerns within the Democratic Party about the tactics being used by the Trump administration to influence the election outcome.
