Benjamin Netanyahu’s right-wing rival, Avigdor Liberman of Yisrael Beytenu, has accused the prime minister of being too pro-Palestine. Liberman claimed Netanyahu is the only one who has publicly declared his willingness to establish a Palestinian state, citing the Likud leader’s 2009 speech at Bar-Ilan University.

The accusation comes in response to Liberman’s own proposal, which suggested allowing Jordan to manage Areas A and B of the West Bank. Liberman floated this idea on the B’Sheva podcast, calling the Palestinian Authority bankrupt. Netanyahu retaliated by labeling Liberman a leftist, referencing his past coalition with Mansour Abbas.

Liberman pushed back with a video compiled from Netanyahu’s past comments on statehood. He tweeted: “This isn’t AI. This is Netanyahu saying: ‘We must have a Palestinian state in the West Bank!’”

Senior coalition figures criticized Liberman’s proposal, with Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich warning that it would jeopardize Israeli security. Smotrich said, “Liberman wants to return Israel to the days of the Jordanian Legion. We must not let that happen.” National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir called Liberman a danger to Israel, while Aryeh Deri of the ultra-orthodox Shas party said Liberman had “forgotten what it means to be right-wing.”

Liberman’s party is projected to gain around 10 seats in the upcoming election, as the campaign enters its final stretch, according to the Jerusalem Post.
