On Friday’s broadcast of the Fox Business Network’s Varney & Co., White House National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett expressed confidence in the latest jobs report, stating he was “Not even a little bit” disappointed with the figures.

Confidence in Economic Policy

During the broadcast, Hassett emphasized that President Trump’s supply-side policies are positively realigning the American economy. When host Stuart Varney questioned whether the modest job addition of 29,000 was disappointing, Hassett dismissed the concern, citing broader economic indicators.

“The bottom line is that President Trump’s policies, the supply side policy, that’s realigning the American economy in a very positive way,” Hassett said. He highlighted the growth in non-government employment, particularly in construction and manufacturing, noting that 12,000 jobs were added in the factory sector, which translates to 112,000 people working on factory construction—a significant increase since Trump took office.

Positive Economic Indicators

Hassett also pointed to recent GDP revisions, which were dramatically upward due to increased capital spending, much of it directed toward building factories. He further argued that supply-side policies have a downward effect on inflation, citing the three-month moving average of the PCE index, which currently stands at an annual rate of 2%. When including food and energy, the rate drops to 1%, reinforcing the administration’s claim that its policies are achieving both low inflation and high economic growth.

“GDP is still hovering around 4%,” Hassett concluded, underscoring the administration’s confidence in the current economic trajectory.

Broader Implications

Hassett’s comments reflect a broader narrative within the Trump administration that its economic policies are driving growth and stability, despite mixed data points. The administration continues to highlight the positive impact of its policies on employment, inflation, and overall economic performance, framing the recent jobs report as a testament to its strategy.
