On September 11th, New England Patriots tight end Eli Raridon and his wife, Anna Raridon, welcomed their newborn son, Peter James Raridon, into the world. However, the joy of the moment was overshadowed by tragedy, as the infant was born with anencephaly, a fatal condition that prevents survival outside the womb.

A Devastating Diagnosis

The couple shared their heartbreaking update through a joint Instagram post, revealing that they were diagnosed with anencephaly during their 20-week anatomy scan. While they expressed their devastation at not being able to bring their son home, they also expressed gratitude for the nine months of love and care they were able to provide.

“While we are absolutely devastated that we were unable to bring our baby boy home, I am grateful to have loved him deeply, kept him safe, and been his home for the past 9 months before he was called back to Heaven,” the couple wrote.

Turning to Faith in Times of Trial

In their post, the Raridons also reflected on their faith, acknowledging that it is easy to glorify the Lord when life is going well, but it is in their deepest trials that they are drawn closest to Him. They shared two Bible verses, 1 Peter 1:5-7 and James 1:2-4, emphasizing the importance of perseverance and trust in God’s care.

“Though his time with us was brief, his life still precious, his purpose still meaningful, and he will forever be a part of our story,” they added.

Background on Eli Raridon

Raridon, who was selected by the New England Patriots in the third round of the 2026 draft, previously attended the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. His journey from college to the NFL highlights the challenges and triumphs of professional sports, a path now marred by personal tragedy.

The Raridons’ story serves as a reminder of the fragility of life and the strength found in love, faith, and community support during times of profound loss.
