President Donald Trump has announced a major partnership with medical technology company Beckton Dickinson (BD) to secure a $3 billion investment in American hospital equipment manufacturing. This initiative aims to boost domestic production of essential medical products, including syringes, needles, and lab kits, which are critical for American patients and hospitals.
Nebraska to Receive Largest Share of Investment
Trump highlighted that Nebraska will receive the largest portion of the investment, with over $1 billion allocated to expand production, including the manufacture of needles using American steel. The president emphasized the importance of domestic manufacturing, stating, ‘No one likes needles — But, if you need one, it should be made of American Steel in the U.S.A.’
According to Trump, the decision by BD to invest in U.S. manufacturing is a direct result of the administration’s strong Medical Device Tariffs, which will be implemented by the end of the year. He reiterated the administration’s commitment to ‘Build in America, Hire American Workers, and Treat American Patients Fairly — or Pay!’
BD’s Commitment to U.S. Manufacturing
BD described the partnership as a ‘landmark collaboration with the U.S. Government to expand domestic manufacturing and strengthen the resilience of supply chains for essential medical consumables.’ The company plans to invest $19 billion in the U.S. over the coming years, with $3 billion specifically directed toward manufacturing expansion across the nation.
BD also announced plans to manufacture 100% of its needles used in the U.S. using American-made steel, supporting the Trump administration’s efforts to bolster the steel industry. The company’s CEO, Tom Polen, stated, ‘This agreement reflects a shared commitment between the U.S. Government and BD to strengthening America’s healthcare infrastructure, expanding U.S. manufacturing capacity and supporting reliable access to essential medical technologies.’
Polen added, ‘For nearly 130 years, BD has partnered with health systems and governments in the U.S. and around the world to meet critical healthcare challenges. We are proud to build on that legacy through significant investment in U.S. manufacturing and innovation, while continuing to advance healthcare and serve patients, providers and communities around the world who depend on us.’
