President Donald Trump turned a seemingly simple question about his favorite cut of steak into a sharp roast of Texas Democratic Senate nominee James Talarico during a recent interview with a Nebraska reporter. The exchange, which was captured on camera, highlighted the ongoing political tensions between Trump and his opponents in the race for the U.S. Senate.

“Let’s imagine you have a Nebraska steak on your plate,” the News Channel Nebraska reporter said. “What would be your preferred cut?” Trump responded by joking about Talarico, who has faced scrutiny over his comments on meat consumption. “Honestly I like them all unlike Talafreako in Texas, where he’s a vegan and all of a sudden he eats steak, and he’s not happy,” Trump said.

“He goes and throws up after he eats it,” Trump added, mocking Talarico’s stance on veganism. The comment was a direct reference to a 2022 video in which Talarico announced that his campaign had adopted a “non-meat” policy, claiming that reducing meat consumption was both a moral obligation and necessary to combat climate change.

“Not just because it’s the right thing to do, and the moral thing to do, but also, as all of you know, it’s necessary to fight climate change,” Talarico said in the video. “It is now existential that we try to reduce our meat consumption and that we try to respect animals in all aspects of society.” He also announced that his campaign would only purchase vegan products from local businesses.

Talarico has since denied being a vegan, clarifying that his campaign’s purchasing policy does not reflect his personal diet. “They’ve even called me a vegan, and those are fighting words in the state of Texas,” he said at a rally. The Democratic National Committee’s official X account also came to his defense, sharing a photo of Talarico eating barbecue with the caption, “November, here we come.”

Meanwhile, Trump continued to support his Republican Senate nominee, Ken Paxton, calling him a “pain in the *ss” but emphasizing that the country “needs him badly.” “When I was being hit by the radical Left very hard — harder than very few people could have withstood it, I was being hit — Ken Paxton was at my side more than anybody,” Trump said at a recent Texas rally.

Paxton, who has also mocked Talarico’s comments, dubbed him “Tofu Talarico.” This back-and-forth reflects the broader political battle over climate policy, dietary choices, and the role of media in shaping public perception. As the election approaches, both sides continue to use these issues to rally their bases and attack their opponents.
