A man accused of murdering former government minister Ann Widdecombe has been charged with attempting to break into the home of Reform UK leader Nigel Farage. Joshua Kerry, 28, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court, where he faces allegations of planning acts of terrorism against Farage from May 2024 to July of this year.

Attempted Break-In and Evidence

Prosecutor Kashif Malik presented evidence that Mr. Farage’s girlfriend, Laure Ferrari, discovered part of the doorframe hanging and a tool mark suggesting an attempted entry to their home on April 20 of last year. A bottle of lighter fluid was found near the door, according to the Times of London.

Additionally, data from Kerry’s car showed it traveled from his home in Rotherham to Mr. Farage’s street on the same day, remaining there for several hours before returning home. Kerry is accused of collecting information on over 100 prominent political figures in Britain, including Farage.

Separate Murder Charges

Kerry is also facing a separate trial for the murder of Ann Widdecombe, who was beaten to death at 78 in her Devon home in July. He is accused of driving 270 miles from Rotherham to Devon to bludgeon the former Conservative MP and Reform UK party spokeswoman to death with a hammer.

Security Concerns and Political Controversies

The case has raised concerns about the security of Mr. Farage and other British political figures. Earlier this year, Farage faced accusations of impropriety over a £5m gift from billionaire donor Christopher Harborne to fund a private security detail. Though not a Member of Parliament at the time, opponents claimed his failure to report the donation breached parliamentary ethics.

Farage resigned from Parliament to run in a special by-election, where he was re-elected with over 63 per cent of the vote, allowing his constituents to judge the matter.
