The Trump administration has sent out nearly 21 million Medicare Improvement Fund payments, according to a report by the Daily Caller. The payments, totaling $90 each, were distributed to Medicare beneficiaries on Thursday, with approximately 19.9 million direct deposits and 874,117 checks mailed out, as confirmed by an administration official.

Healthcare Relief and Policy Moves

President Donald Trump announced in early October that he would be using the $2 billion Medicare Improvement Fund to provide $90 checks to Medicare enrollees to help with premium costs. White House Spokeswoman Allison Schuster emphasized that the payments were part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to lower healthcare costs for American patients.

These payouts come after a September survey found that 54% of voters in rural areas did not approve of how Trump was handling healthcare. Despite this, the administration has continued to push forward with other healthcare initiatives, including the Most Favored Nation pricing model, which led to a $600 billion savings from 26 drugmakers lowering their prices.

Focus on Fraud and Enforcement

The administration has also focused on targeting healthcare fraud, with the Department of Justice uncovering $6.5 billion in alleged fraud and seeking to prosecute 455 individuals. Assistant Attorney General Colin M. McDonald highlighted the administration’s commitment to fighting fraud, stating that no scheme is too complex or hiding place too remote.

The Medicare Improvement Fund, established by President George W. Bush in 2008, had not been used for direct payments to beneficiaries before. This marks a significant shift in how the fund is utilized, aiming to provide immediate financial relief to Medicare recipients.

Political and Public Reaction

While the administration claims the payments are a step toward lowering healthcare costs, the move has been met with mixed reactions. Some voters, particularly in rural areas, have expressed dissatisfaction with how Trump is managing healthcare policy. However, the administration remains focused on its agenda, emphasizing its efforts to prioritize patients over special interests.
