Vice President JD Vance has announced the indefinite suspension of Microsoft’s access to the PERM program, a key step in the Department of Labor’s process for granting employment-based green cards. The decision was made during a press conference on visa fraud, where Vance highlighted an ongoing investigation into Microsoft’s practices.

Vance stated that the investigation revealed Microsoft laid off approximately 6,000 American workers last year while simultaneously receiving around 6,300 H-1B visas and nearly 3,000 green-card certifications. The PERM program, which is the Department of Labor’s labor-certification process for most employment-based green cards, is now suspended for Microsoft, preventing the company from sponsoring H-1B workers for permanent residency.

‘If the H-1B visa is how people come into the country, the PERM program is how they stay in the United States to begin with,’ Vance said. He emphasized that Microsoft has been the most egregious abuser of the system, with the company replacing every American worker laid off with 1.5 foreign workers.

‘That is a scandalous system that we’ve allowed in this country for far too long,’ Vance added. ‘But thanks to the work of this task force and the empowerment of the President of the United States, we’re going to stop it.’

Vance reiterated the administration’s support for American technology companies but stressed the importance of hiring American workers. ‘We want you to thrive in the United States, to invest in the United States, particularly in the American technology sector. We are the biggest boosters of your industry. We want you to continue to grow and to employ a lot of people, but we want you to employ American workers.’

‘Our message to Microsoft is, you’re a great American company, but you’ve got to hire great American workers. You cannot lay off American workers and then replace them with foreign indentured servants.’
