Fired CNN host Don Lemon has hinted at a potential presidential campaign, stating he would run if the public supports him. During a recent appearance on the Uncloseted podcast, Lemon expressed openness to the idea, though he emphasized the significant commitment required for such a role.
Open to a Political Bid
“If the people want me, I’ll do it,” Lemon said, according to Just The News. He added that while he is considering the possibility, he currently has a lot on his plate with his journalism work.
“This is not easy to do every day, but I am very aware of the importance of what I’m doing, what it means to the culture and society,” he explained. Lemon’s most recent journalism effort was in Minneapolis earlier this year, where he was arrested and charged with federal civil rights crimes, as reported by Breitbart News in January.
Journalism vs. Politics
Lemon noted that he believes he could be a better president than Donald Trump, but acknowledged the challenges of running for office. “It is a daunting undertaking to run for president in this country because you’d have to be devoted to it full-time,” he said. “And I would like to devote much of my time to journalism.” He admitted that the decision is a personal one, reflecting on whether he should continue as a journalist or pursue a political career.
Uncertain Timeline
Lemon placed a 65 percent to 70 percent chance on a future campaign, though he did not specify the year of a potential run. At age 60, he could be considering a bid in 2032 or 2036. His comments suggest a careful consideration of the impact of such a move on both his career and the nation.
Public Perception and Role
Lemon expressed a deep reflection on his role in society, contemplating whether his best contribution is through journalism or through public service. “It makes me wonder my best way of being and operating in this society, whether it is through journalism or if it is through becoming the president of the United States,” he said.
