During an appearance on Fox News Channel’s ‘Hannity’ on Thursday, ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith was asked to comment on the Democratic Party’s fringe elements, including Hasan Piker, an online streamer known for his hyperbolic remarks about Republicans and the American political and economic system. Host Sean Hannity linked Piker to Michigan’s Democratic Senate nominee, Abdul El-Sayed, who is associated with the so-called Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).

Smith Opposes DSA Affiliates

Smith expressed opposition to DSA-affiliated candidates, describing them as an impediment to the Democratic Party’s success. He emphasized his support for moderate Democrats, stating he is not aligned with socialist or radical left ideologies.

“Let me be very, very clear, I am about moderate Democrat. That’s what — I’m not for socialist. I’m not for anybody with DSA. I’m not with anything as you would describe the radical left and I think it’s an impediment to the success of the Democratic Party because as long as that’s existing, they’re going to be a house divided and you’re not going to be able to come together to beat them,” Smith said.

Smith also commented on the current state of the Democratic Party, suggesting that the president’s actions may be helping some of these radical elements gain visibility as the midterms approach.

“However, your president is helping some of them look good, as these polls are showing as the midterms approach, he’s not very popular right now, Sean,” he added.

The discussion highlights the growing divide within the Democratic Party, with some members and media figures raising concerns about the influence of more radical factions. As the midterms draw closer, the party faces the challenge of balancing its base with the broader electorate.
