Alonzo Lunsford, a survivor of the 2009 Fort Hood shooting, is preparing to attend the execution of Nidal Hasan, the Army psychiatrist who opened fire on fellow soldiers during the attack. Lunsford, who was shot multiple times including in the head, is set to witness the execution, which has been approved by President Donald Trump to be carried out by firing squad.

Closure and Message

Speaking on “America’s Newsroom,” Lunsford explained his decision to attend the execution, emphasizing the need for closure for both survivors and the families of the deceased. He stated, “You live by the sword, you die by the sword. And the way that he went about doing his deed was a coward’s way because we didn’t have any way to defend ourselves that day.”

Lunsford believes the execution sends a clear message that such acts of violence will not be tolerated within the U.S. military or the country at large. “It’s for two reasons. One is to give the families of the deceased a chance to close a chapter and also the survivors to close a chapter,” he added.

For Lunsford and others affected by the attack, even holidays are not the same. He noted that families of the deceased will “never get a chance to cherish a Christmas, a Thanksgiving, an Easter” with their loved ones again.

Some people on the left are clutching their pearls over the idea of Hasan’s execution. They should try to explain to this man why executing Hasan is wrong.

Lunsford’s decision reflects a deep personal and emotional resolve, as he seeks to find peace and closure after surviving one of the deadliest attacks in U.S. military history.
