He accused the ‘Radical Left Dumocrats, Socialists, and Communists’ of ‘rampaging through our cities and towns ripping down almost all of the beautiful statues of Christopher Columbus.’
Trump claimed the ‘plunder’ was now over and that the statues are ‘back, more magnificent than ever.’ He specifically highlighted the statue placed in front of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, which he said was done ‘in Honor of the Italian American Community.’

Trump has consistently defended Columbus despite left-wing efforts to tarnish his legacy. In 2018, he posted on Twitter praising Columbus’s ‘spirit of determination & adventure’ and called for the nation to honor his ‘remarkable accomplishments.’
He also issued a presidential proclamation directing the display of the U.S. flag on public buildings on Columbus Day, emphasizing the importance of honoring the nation’s diverse history.

In several states, Columbus Day has been renamed or combined with Indigenous Peoples’ Day due to pressure from the left. Trump’s message aligns with his broader defense of historical figures and his criticism of what he calls ‘cancel culture.’
