Nigel Farage, leader of Reform UK, has announced plans to impose tariffs, visa bans, and airline restrictions on countries that refuse to accept the return of migrants from the UK. This pledge comes as part of the party’s commitment to deport all illegal migrants and combat what Farage calls an ‘out-of-control disaster’ for national security.

Stricter Measures Than Previous Government

Farage stated that if he becomes prime minister, he will not tolerate countries that fail to take back their nationals. He emphasized that these measures are necessary to address the growing issue of illegal immigration, which he claims is worsening under the current government’s open-border policies.

The British government has previously used visa restrictions to pressure countries like Angola, Namibia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo to accept deportees. However, Farage argues that a firmer stance is required to ensure compliance and secure the UK’s borders.

Targeting Key Countries

Farage highlighted countries such as Afghanistan, Eritrea, Pakistan, Somalia, and Syria as resistant to cooperation with London. He also mentioned that tariffs would be most effective against countries with limited regular immigration but significant trade ties, using Egypt as an example. Pakistan, which has refused to deport members of the Muslim child rape grooming gangs, is also under consideration for airline restrictions.

Reform UK has further pledged to establish a new Ministry of Deportations and create deportation hubs in left-leaning areas of the UK. The party has also partnered with El Salvador under President Nayib Bukele to house criminal aliens.

International Collaboration and Recent Trends

Farage recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Jordan Bardella, leader of France’s National Rally, to address illegal migration in the English Channel. Despite claims of a reduction in Channel crossings, nearly 21,000 migrants have been brought ashore in Britain this year, with only around 9,700 returned to France since 2018.

Farage’s approach has drawn both support and criticism, with some questioning the effectiveness of such measures. Nonetheless, the party remains committed to its goal of removing all illegal migrants from the UK.
