Rep. Ilhan Omar has condemned the Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) raid on her home, calling it an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. The raid, which occurred early Monday morning, was part of an ongoing investigation into her immigration paperwork, according to a Department of Justice (DOJ) spokesperson.

Omar, born in Somalia, posted to social media following the reports of the raid, stating she was “ok” and labeling the investigation as a political attack. “This is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement,” she wrote.

“For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation,” Omar continued, vowing, “I will not be silenced.”

Congressional Democrat leaders released a joint statement calling the raid “disturbing” and accusing the Trump administration of corruption. “The Trump administration’s raid on Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s home is deeply disturbing and raises serious questions about the continued corrupt weaponization of the federal government against Donald Trump’s adversaries,” the statement read.

The statement also called out “far-right extremists,” accusing them as a whole and the president of “relentlessly” targeting Omar “with vile personal attacks and baseless accusations.”

“Now, less than 30 days until the midterm election, his violent mass deportation machine has descended upon the home of a duly elected Member of Congress and her family,” the leaders continued. They vowed to hold the DOJ and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) accountable for the “rogue abuse of power.”

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D-Minn.) also weighed in, accusing Trump of abuse of power and tying the raid to the upcoming midterm elections. “Americans see this for what it is – President Trump is abusing his power to go after political opponents weeks before an election,” Walz posted to social media on Monday.

Last month, White House Border Czar Tom Homan confirmed there was an “ongoing criminal investigation” into the congresswoman, stating on Fox News’ “The Sunday Briefing” that “no one’s above the law.” After arriving with her family in the U.S. in the 90s, Omar completed the naturalization process and received her U.S. citizenship in 2000 at the age of 17, according to Britannica.
