Kacey Musgraves, the country singer known for her liberal views, made headlines during her Dallas concert on Sunday by calling Christopher Columbus a ‘loser’ and ‘the lamest person to probably ever exist.’ The incident occurred after fans objected to her referring to Monday’s holiday as Columbus Day rather than Indigenous Peoples Day.

‘Tomorrow’s Monday? That sucks. Boo,’ Musgraves said. ‘Oh yeah, it’s a holiday, right? Ew, that’s right, wait, it’s Columbus Day?’ After the crowd’s objections, she quickly trashed the explorer. ‘Yeah, obviously f*ck Columbus,’ she said. ‘Literally the lamest person to probably ever exist. Like, for real. What a loser.’ She added, ‘You’re a loser Christopher Columbus. We hate you.’

The rant went viral online and sparked critical responses. Former Los Angeles GOP mayoral candidate and ‘Hills’ star Spencer Pratt tweeted, ‘An entire generation of spoiled brats who’ve never built anything, stand on the crumbling empire they don’t deserve, built by great and courageous men who are now judged through the moral lens of the softest dorks living in the easiest times.’

The day before her anti-Columbus rant, Musgraves took photos with Democrat Texas Senate candidate James Talarico, whom she hosted at her show. The PR stunt followed a mysterious 12-day hiatus from Talarico during the final stretch of the campaign. His campaign said he had been recovering from the flu.

Musgraves’ anti-Columbus comments and photo-op with Talarico come as no surprise. The singer is hyper liberal and often talks politics. In 2020, she claimed that voting for President Donald Trump while loving an LGBTQ+ person amounted to ‘an act of violence’ against that person.

‘If you love an LGBTQ+ person and you’re planning on voting for Donald Trump in November, that’s an act of violence against them,’ she wrote on social media. Musgraves has also advocated for gun control and criticized other Republican leaders.
