Morales, originally from Venezuela, is essential to the deposition and trial proceedings, as he holds vital information about remote access to voting systems.
Search for Morales Intensifies
Legal representatives for Joe Oltmann have made extensive efforts to locate Morales, who is also known by the names ‘Ronny Valles’ and ‘Ronald Santiago Morales Valles.’ Despite these efforts, Morales remains elusive, raising concerns about his potential involvement in the case.
Dominion and Coomer have consistently denied any remote access capabilities to voting systems, asserting that they have no connection to Venezuela. However, Morales’ emails from 2007 reveal his involvement with Venezuela and Smartmatic/Sequoia, where the steps for the RAS, or Remote Access Server, were discussed.
Professional Background and Key Role
Morales joined Smartmatic in 2004 and worked on Election Management System (EMS) quality assurance in Venezuela. After Smartmatic acquired Sequoia Voting Systems, he contributed to integrating Smartmatic equipment with Sequoia’s EMS. He later became a senior systems manager at Dominion.
In August 2007, emails circulated on sites like the Election Crime Bureau showed Fernando Hernández of Smartmatic Labs in Venezuela communicating with Morales, then at Sequoia, about setting up a Windows Routing and Remote Access Service (RRAS) server. These emails detailed the hardware and software needed for the setup and discussed configuration, mentioning a RAS server and a ‘HAAT Listener’ intended for use in Wisconsin.
Significance of Morales’ Role
It is believed that Dominion retained one of the original Venezuelan employees from Smartmatic/Sequoia, possibly due to Morales’ critical role in understanding remote access. A virtual machine is considered a valuable tool for remote access, and the case highlights the importance of such systems in election processes.
Eric Coomer admitted that a VPN was set up in Chicago for ’emergency use’ but could not recall using it. This contrasts with his 2022 testimony before a grand jury, where he denied rigging the 2020 election.
