Hayden Panettiere’s tragic final moments were captured in a 911 call obtained by CBS News, revealing the frantic efforts to save her life after she was found unresponsive in her South Carolina apartment. The recording, released on Wednesday, details the harrowing attempt by Brian Hickerson’s brother, Zach, to perform CPR on the actress after she collapsed on August 16.

Emergency Response and Death

Zach, who discovered Panettiere unconscious, called 911 in panic, prompting a tense exchange with the dispatcher. The recording shows Zach asking, “Oh god, oh my god,” before the dispatcher inquired if she was breathing. Zach responded, “No, I don’t think so,” and was instructed to start CPR. Despite his efforts, emergency responders arrived and took over, ultimately declaring her dead at 2:32 p.m.

Coroner’s Findings and Drug Overdose

The Greenville County, South Carolina, coroner’s office ruled Panettiere’s death as the toxic effects of fentanyl, 4-ANPP, alprazolam, methocarbamol, and quetiapine, classifying it as an accident. Investigators believe she ingested a combination of black-market prescription drugs, including oxycodone, obtained from a dealer in Los Angeles. One pill she reportedly took the following morning was laced with fentanyl, contributing to the fatal overdose.

Background and Legal Investigation

Panettiere was found unconscious by her boyfriend Brian Hickerson and his brother Zach, who had returned from a church service. Brian immediately administered Narcan, a medication used to reverse opioid overdoses, while Zach called for emergency help. Brian is reportedly cooperating with DEA investigators in an ongoing probe into the drug dealer who supplied Panettiere with the fatal substances.

Police documents previously indicated that Panettiere had a “bag of medication” containing nine different substances, though the specific medications were redacted. The DEA has been involved in the case since its inception, aiming to dismantle her dealer network in a manner similar to past operations targeting those linked to the deaths of Matthew Perry and Mac Miller.
