Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) is urging Congress to cut federal spending and address the nation’s $40 trillion debt, warning that unchecked fiscal policies are driving up costs for American families. In the third installment of his ‘Rescuing America’ project, Scott emphasized the need for fiscal responsibility and a return to ‘fiscal sanity’ as the national debt continues to grow.
Fiscal Responsibility and Debt Concerns
Scott criticized Washington’s ‘spending addiction,’ saying it is unfair to hardworking families who are struggling to make ends meet. He highlighted the impact of the national debt, stating that interest payments on the debt are now larger than the country’s national defense budget.
“$58,000 per second is what the government is adding to the national debt. That’s unacceptable,” Scott said in a video provided to Breitbart News. He also warned that continued deficit spending would lead to significant cuts in essential programs, higher interest rates, and increased prices for everyday Americans.
Addressing Wasteful Spending and Earmarks
Scott also criticized congressional earmarks, which he claimed wasted over $14.3 billion in taxpayer money on ‘wasteful pet projects.’ He argued that the government has become unaccountable to the public and that Congress has failed in its duty as a fiscal steward.
“Our federal debt is a leading reason why everything costs you so much more. It hurts the American taxpayer, not Congress,” he added. Scott called for a return to fiscal responsibility, emphasizing the need for balanced budgets and reduced government spending.
Rescuing America Project and Policy Priorities
The ‘Rescuing America’ project is built around three key principles: balancing the federal budget, reducing government regulations, and creating private-sector jobs. Scott previously outlined these goals in a Newsweek op-ed, where he argued that reducing government spending, eliminating excessive regulations, and fostering job creation through tax cuts and smart investment are essential to reignite the American Dream.
“If socialism isn’t the answer, how do we reignite the American Dream? Simple: listen to the American people and make government work for the things that are most important to them,” Scott wrote. He stressed that the current fiscal approach is unsustainable and that drastic changes are necessary to ensure the long-term economic health of the country.
