A foundation supporting Navy SEALs stunned guests at a private gala in Newport Beach, California, with a dramatic helicopter performance. The event, held on October 8 at the Newport Beach Country Club, was part of the SEAL Future Foundation’s annual gala. The organization, a nonprofit dedicated to helping Navy SEALs transition to civilian life, brought the crowd to their feet with a thrilling display of aerial feats.

Helicopter Stunt Leaves Golf Course in Smoke

The performance included a helicopter flying close to the ground as flames shot up from below. Later, the chopper circled around some trees, releasing red and blue smoke from its rear. According to local station KABC, the golf course was eventually blanketed in smoke by the end of the stunt.

Before the event, Newport Beach Police had warned residents not to panic. They posted on social media that the demonstration, which was expected to last about 15 minutes, would include a helicopter flyover, fireworks, loud noises, and theatrical smoke effects. The police emphasized that these were planned for the private event and not a cause for concern.

Founder Jonathan Wilson Shares Transition Struggles

The foundation was founded by Jonathan Wilson, a former Navy SEAL who struggled with civilian life after returning from service. In a self-written profile, Wilson described feeling like an outsider after transitioning to an investment banking career. He eventually reenlisted, but after two more deployments, he found himself back in civilian life and decided to start the SEAL Future Foundation.

Wilson explained that the foundation marked his true transition, helping him find a purpose and a way to support his fellow SEALs. He now works full-time in finance, thanks in part to the foundation’s services, which help him communicate his needs to his employer.

Wilson Calls for More Support for Veterans

Two years ago, Wilson appeared in an interview with fellow former Navy SEAL Shawn Ryan, where he called for society to do more to support struggling veterans. The conversation touched on the challenges many veterans face during their transition to civilian life and the importance of community support.

While the event was a celebration of service and support, it also highlighted the ongoing need for resources and understanding for those who have served. The SEAL Future Foundation continues to play a vital role in helping Navy SEALs navigate the complexities of civilian life.
