President Donald Trump celebrated the achievements of his administration during a campaign rally in Highland Heights, Kentucky, emphasizing the record-breaking level of American exports in 2026. Speaking to the crowd, Trump highlighted the impact of his policies, particularly his tariffs, which he claimed contributed to a surge in U.S. manufacturing and unprecedented export numbers.
Record Exports and Economic Growth
According to an October report from the Council of Economic Advisers, U.S. exports reached an all-time monthly record in April 2026, hitting $220 billion. Trading Economics reported a total of $329.89 billion in exports for the same month. The council also noted an increase in factory construction during Trump’s second term.
“The manufacturing resurgence we are witnessing reinforces America’s dominance as a global leader,” the council stated. “This has positive impacts on the labor sector, with more American jobs, increased wages, and company expansions that benefit local economies and communities nationwide.”
Tariffs and Job Creation
Trump claimed that his tariffs have led to a significant increase in manufacturing within the U.S. He stated that companies building plants in the country are exempt from tariffs, which he said has encouraged domestic production.
“There’s no tariff to pay if they come in and build their plant in Kentucky or any one of our states,” Trump said. “It’s very simple.”
He also highlighted the high employment numbers under his administration, noting that these figures were achieved despite large-scale federal layoffs. “We have employment numbers that are the greatest in history,” Trump said, “but that’s not making America great again. What’s making America great again is the private sector.”
Political Campaign and Midterm Focus
Ahead of the pivotal November elections, Trump has been traveling across the country campaigning for GOP candidates. In Kentucky, he urged voters to support Senate candidate Andy Barr (R-Ky.) and House candidate Ed Gallrein (R-Ky.), who defeated incumbent Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) in the Republican primary earlier this year.
Trump also took aim at his Democratic opponent, Charles Booker (D-Ky.), calling him a “radical left Dumocrat.” He referenced Booker’s past comments on defunding the police, stating, “When asked if he wants to defund the police, Charles Booker responded, ‘Now is the time to do it.’”
Trump has several rallies planned in the upcoming week, with stops in Kansas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Iowa, Florida, Georgia, and Michigan. He emphasized the importance of the upcoming midterms, calling it “the most important midterm in the history of our country.”
“We’ve gotten more things done, and they can undo them if we start losing an election, especially this one,” Trump said. “So, pretend I’m on the ballot. Go out and vote.”
