On Saturday’s episode of Fox News Channel’s “Big Weekend Show,” Trump border czar Tom Homan stated that the administration could denaturalize and deport Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) if federal investigators confirm immigration fraud. The remarks came during a discussion on the ongoing investigation into Omar’s naturalization process.
Investigation Underway
Co-host Tomi Lahren asked Homan about the public reaction to the investigation, noting that many felt it was a long time coming due to years of allegations and suspicions. Homan responded by emphasizing that the allegations were made public over a year ago and that the investigation is ongoing. He stated, “I said over a year ago the allegations were made clear and it would be investigated. And they are investigating it.”
Homan added that while he could not provide specific details about the evidence, he was confident that the investigation was thorough and that the evidence would determine the outcome. “I think they’re doing a great investigation. I think they’re going to turn over every rock they’ve got with this,” he said.
Possible Deportation
Lahren then asked if the investigation could lead to denaturalization and deportation. Homan confirmed that if the evidence showed fraud during the naturalization process, denaturalization could occur. “If you lie during the naturalization process, there is a process to denaturalize somebody. We’ve done it before, it’s a long, tedious process, but it’s been done before,” he explained.
Homan also noted that he had been involved in similar investigations in the past and that the process would be followed if the evidence supported it. “I’ve been involved with those investigations before, and certainly, if the evidence points that way, that could happen,” he said.
Legal and Political Implications
The potential denaturalization and deportation of a U.S. congresswoman has raised significant legal and political questions. Homan emphasized that Omar would be held to the same standard as any other citizen. “If she violated law, then she will be held accountable,” he stated.
While the administration has not yet released any concrete evidence, the ongoing investigation has sparked widespread debate. Critics argue that the process could set a dangerous precedent, while supporters claim it is necessary to uphold the integrity of the naturalization process.
