A juvenile moose in Idaho was rescued by a deputy after becoming entangled in wire, according to the Latah County Sheriff’s Office. The incident occurred last week when Deputy Frantz responded to a welfare check on the moose, which was struggling with a tangle of wire. The deputy’s body camera captured the tense moments as the moose cried out in frustration, unable to free itself.

Despite the moose’s attempts to stand, it repeatedly fell back to the ground, its head still caught in the wire. Frantz worked methodically, using wire cutters to free the animal one section at a time. Throughout the process, the deputy remained calm, reassuring the moose with words like, “Hold on, buddy.”

At one point, the moose managed to stand but soon tumbled back down. As it lay still, Frantz continued his efforts, clipping the wires with precision. The moose eventually broke free and ran off, safe and sound, according to the sheriff’s office. The rescue was described as a success, with the animal appearing healthy and unharmed.

Public Reaction and Similar Incidents

Social media users praised the rescue, with one commenting, “It’s like the moose knew you were saving them,” and another suggesting, “Name that moose BOLT! Stayed so calm until it knew freedom was in sight!”

A similar incident occurred earlier this month when a moose became stuck in a skate park in Red Lodge, Montana. Crews tranquilized the moose and carefully removed it from the cement bowl, relocating it to a safer area outside the town.

About Moose

Moose are the largest members of the deer family, standing up to six feet tall from hoof to shoulder and weighing over 1,000 pounds. Their hollow hairs provide insulation, and a flap of skin called a dewlap hangs from their throat. Males are distinguishable by their antlers, which can span up to six feet across.
