Federal authorities have arrested 28 registered noncitizen voters in California, all of whom were on a list of 20,000 individuals flagged for potential voter fraud. The arrests follow a long-standing dispute between federal officials and California Democrats, who have repeatedly denied the existence of noncitizen voters on the rolls.

Democrats Refuse to Acknowledge Voter Fraud

Bill Essayli, first assistant U.S. attorney for the Central District of California, has criticized the Democratic leadership for their refusal to acknowledge the issue. He pointed out that the recent arrests are just the beginning of a larger effort to clean up the voter rolls. “28 people charged today. All 28 are on the list of 20,000+ likely noncitizen registrants we gave California last week. All 28 are still registered voters, and ballots are going out now. No, this isn’t the total number of noncitizen voters in California. Police can’t catch every speeder, but that doesn’t mean speeding isn’t widespread. 28 is what we could charge in a week. California must verify those 20,000 registrations before counting ballots. One illegal vote is too many,” Essayli said.

Federal Efforts to Combat Voter Fraud Nationwide

Essayli also highlighted the broader scope of the issue, noting that the Department of Justice has charged 113 aliens across 20 states with illegal voting and registration offenses in the past seven weeks. “Since the beginning of this administration, we have charged 156 people with voting fraud-related offenses. These are not isolated instances. We are investigating thousands of more similar cases throughout the nation,” he explained.

Political Implications of Voter Fraud

The arrests have sparked debate about the integrity of the electoral process and the potential impact on Democratic control of state and local offices. Essayli suggested that if the Trump administration succeeds in cleaning up the voter rolls, it could lead to significant political shifts. “If the Democrats could win honestly, why would they be so hysterical about crackdowns on fraud?” he questioned.

Continued Investigation and Legal Action

Essayli confirmed that the arrests are part of an ongoing investigation. “We began arresting these individuals this morning, early this morning. My understanding is at least 11 are in custody so far. The rest will be in custody in the near future,” he said. The case underscores the ongoing efforts by federal authorities to address voter fraud and ensure the integrity of the electoral process.
