French President Emmanuel Macron has criticized foreign leaders for what he called ‘stupid’ comments about the recent riots in France, in an apparent rebuke of U.S. President Donald Trump. Speaking during a trip to Qatar, Macron expressed frustration with global leaders who he believes are spreading misinformation about the unrest in his country.

Macron accused some foreign leaders of being influenced by ‘foreign manipulation of information,’ including AI-generated images of riots, which he said led to a misrepresentation of events. He dismissed claims that France has been overrun by ‘hordes of migrants and Islamists,’ calling them ‘completely false.’ Macron also accused certain leaders of using the situation to advance their own political agendas, stating, ‘When I see leaders who are campaigning in our own region or on the other side of the Atlantic… who are echoing narratives that certain circles want to propagate about what happened in France, they are campaigning at our expense.’

Europeans Also Express Concern Over Migration-Linked Violence

Macron’s comments have drawn attention to the broader European concern over migration-related violence. Germany’s Chancellor Friedrich Merz, a centrist leader, stated that the violence is ‘most likely’ the result of ‘non-integrated people’ due to ‘migration.’ Poland and Hungary, which recently saw shifts in government, have also expressed alarm over the situation in France.

Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk, a dedicated Eurocrat, said his country would not ‘repeat the mistakes’ of France and would be ‘relentless’ in defending its own security. Hungary’s Prime Minister, meanwhile, rhetorically asked, ‘In the face of this senseless destruction and unjustified violence, perhaps it is now clear to everyone why Hungary advocates the strictest possible approach to migration, and why we will not weaken our border protection or immigration policy under any pressure.’

Macron’s Growing Challenges in Europe

Despite Macron’s attempts to shift the focus of the conversation to foreign leaders, European leaders are increasingly aligning with the view that migration is a key factor in the unrest. This growing consensus may challenge Macron’s position, especially as he faces mounting pressure to address the situation in France effectively.
