President Donald Trump and Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick announced significant semiconductor investments in North Carolina during a rally in Greenville, highlighting the administration’s focus on boosting domestic manufacturing. The announcement came as part of Trump’s broader strategy to bring semiconductor production back to the United States.

Lutnick emphasized the importance of the semiconductor industry, stating that Sibelco will build silicon and quartz manufacturing facilities in the state. The project is expected to involve hundreds of millions of dollars in investment, forming the foundation for advanced semiconductor production.

Trump also highlighted a major investment from the Department of War, announcing a $1.5 billion commitment to produce cutting-edge semiconductor chips in North Carolina. This investment was made through the Office of Strategic Capital (OSC) to Wolfspeed, Inc., based in Durham, North Carolina. The funding is part of a conditional loan commitment announced earlier this month.

As the midterms approach, Trump has been actively campaigning for GOP candidates across the country. In North Carolina, he urged voters to support Senate candidate Michael Whatley (R-N.C.), a former chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC), and other Republican candidates. Whatley is running against former Governor Roy Cooper (D-N.C.), whom Trump has criticized for releasing thousands of prisoners early from their sentences.

Cooper’s decision to release 3,500 prisoners, including over 600 who later committed serious felonies, has drawn sharp criticism from Trump. The move was part of a settlement with civil rights organizations, though many of the released individuals were reportedly already scheduled for release.

Trump’s campaign continues with planned rallies in South Carolina, Iowa, Florida, Georgia, and Michigan, as he aims to maintain a strong Republican presence in Congress following the midterms.
