GOP Rep. Fallon: Polls Underestimate GOP Midterm Performance
Rep. Pat Fallon claims polls are unreliable and predicts Republicans will outperform expectations in upcoming midterms.

Despite widespread predictions of a strong Democratic showing in the upcoming midterm elections, Republican Rep. Pat Fallon (R-TX) has dismissed the reliability of polls, asserting that they consistently underestimate GOP support. During an appearance on Fox Business Network’s “The Evening Edit,” Fallon argued that the media and political left have used polling data to discourage Republican voter turnout.
Fallon Challenges Poll Accuracy
Fallon responded to a question from host Elizabeth MacDonald, who cited a 2024 study showing that national and battleground polls had consistently underestimated Republican support. MacDonald also referenced a Washington Post analysis indicating that polls had overestimated Democratic candidates in key Senate races by more than six points in Iowa, Michigan, and Ohio.
Fallon dismissed these findings as routine, saying, “Nothing new at all.” He claimed to have observed high levels of enthusiasm for the Republican Party during his recent campaign travels in Virginia and North Carolina. He then made a bold prediction: “I suspect — and Liz, I will make this promise to you: Republicans will certainly outperform the polls.”
Politicizing Polls
Fallon suggested that the left and mainstream media have used polling data to discourage Republican participation, a claim he has made repeatedly. He referenced a 2024 poll that had incorrectly predicted Democratic candidate Kamala Harris would win Iowa by three points, which he called “a joke.” He added, “President Trump won that by double digits.”
Fallon’s comments reflect a broader frustration among some Republicans with the perceived bias in media and polling institutions. While polls have historically been seen as a reliable barometer of public opinion, recent election outcomes have led many to question their accuracy. Fallon’s assertion that polls are not trustworthy aligns with a growing sentiment among conservative lawmakers that the media is more interested in shaping narratives than reflecting reality.
Political Implications
As the midterms approach, the debate over the accuracy of polls has intensified. While some analysts argue that polls have become more sophisticated and reliable, others, like Fallon, believe that political bias continues to skew their results. With the stakes high for both parties, the outcome of the midterms will likely be a test of how well these predictions hold up in real-world voting behavior.
