Former NFL Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease at the age of 53, according to a recent revelation on the Caring Neurologist podcast. Faulk shared his experience with Yahoo Sports’ Jack Baer, detailing how he noticed symptoms during his time playing golf and eventually sought medical attention.

Noticing Symptoms Early

Faulk explained that he first noticed the issue while playing golf, where he experienced rigidity in his hand. He initially thought it was a normal part of the sport, but the symptoms persisted even when he wasn’t in a match. Concerned, he asked his doctor, who advised him to undergo further testing.

Managing the Condition

Since starting medication, Faulk has reported that most of his symptoms have improved. He mentioned that while he still experiences some rigidity in his hands and occasional tremors, the medication has helped him maintain his daily activities. He also noted that he sleeps more than before but otherwise feels relatively stable.

Viewing the Diagnosis Positively

Faulk emphasized that he does not see Parkinson’s as a terminal illness. Instead, he views it as a condition he can live with, noting that there are far worse health issues. His outlook reflects a proactive approach to managing his health, despite the challenges posed by the disease.

Coaching Career and NFL Legacy

Following his playing career, Faulk transitioned into coaching, becoming the head coach at Southern University on December 1, 2025. His NFL career, spanning 12 seasons with the Indianapolis Colts and Los Angeles Rams, was marked by impressive statistics, including 12,279 rushing yards, 6,875 receiving yards, and 136 total touchdowns.

Legacy and Future

Faulk’s diagnosis highlights the importance of early detection and proactive health management, especially for athletes who often face unique physical challenges. His journey serves as a reminder of the ongoing need for awareness and support for individuals living with Parkinson’s Disease.
