Authorities have arrested a suspect after an arsonist attacked an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) building in Atlanta with a Molotov cocktail. The incident occurred at the ICE facility located at 180 Ted Turner Drive, which houses the Atlanta Immigration Court and key legal advisors for ICE and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).
U.S. Attorney Theodore Hertzberg confirmed that the suspect, Inique Hinton, was identified and apprehended within three days of the attack. Hertzberg described the incident, stating, “Three days ago, at approximately this exact time, an individual hurled a Molotov cocktail at the ICE building.” He added that the individual was caught on camera, and the Atlanta Police Department (APD) attempted to pursue the suspect but were unsuccessful. However, the FBI, working with APD and the Joint Terrorism Task Force, quickly identified the suspect.
Once Hinton’s identity was confirmed, authorities were able to locate him and arrest him. Hertzberg stated, “Earlier today, my office obtained a criminal complaint in federal court charging an individual named Inique Hinton with two federal crimes.” The charges include damaging a building by use of fire or explosives, which is classified as arson, and damaging government property. The arson charge carries a mandatory minimum penalty of 5 years and a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison, while the other offense can result in up to 10 years in prison.
HSI posted video of Hertzberg’s statement, and the incident has drawn attention to the rising incidents of violence against immigration enforcement. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed a significant increase in assaults, vehicular attacks, and death threats against immigration officers. Hertzberg emphasized that the attack was a result of leftist rhetoric and extremism, and that the violence surrounding immigration enforcement is not confined to ICE.
BREAKING: CAUGHT – MOLOTOV COCKTAIL THROWER Inique Hinton has been ARRESTED on federal arson and damaging government property charges after allegedly throwing a Molotov cocktail at an ERO facility in Atlanta, Georgia. HSI proudly stands with our federal, state, and local partners in holding those who attack law enforcement accountable.
While Hinton does not appear to have injured anyone, the arrest marks a significant outcome for the investigation. Hertzberg concluded, “This is an outstanding result within three days to identify and apprehend a suspect for this attack on the ICE building.” He added, “One hopes that Hinton doesn’t get off easy.”
