Ex-Candidate Returns to Maine, Sparks Mixed Reactions

Former Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner, who dropped out of the race after allegations of sexual misconduct and rape, has returned to his oystering work on the coast, sparking mixed reactions from locals. In a video shared by the New York Post, Platner appeared agitated when approached by a reporter, questioning the reporter’s motives and expressing frustration with the media attention.

“Who the f–k are you weirdos?” Platner said, as he was paddling his kayak to shore. When asked what he had been doing since dropping out of the race, he responded, “What the f–k does it look like I’m up to? I’m being an oyster farmer,” he said, highlighting his shift from politics to the sea.

Life on the Maine Coast

Platner, who had built his campaign around an ‘awe-shucks’ working-class image, faced scrutiny over his background, including attending a prestigious prep school and being the son of privilege. His oystering efforts, however, were revealed to be minimal, with his only client being his mother’s restaurant.

Despite the controversies, some locals in Sullivan have reported that Platner seems to be doing better since stepping down from politics. Dunbar Store owner Josh Winer noted that Platner has returned to being a ‘regular person again,’ enjoying a roast beef sandwich named after him and engaging in normal conversations about oysters.

Mixed Local Reactions

Not everyone has welcomed Platner’s return. A local fruit seller expressed frustration, telling the outlet, “He’s not a favorite around here. Especially with the women,” indicating lingering resentment over past allegations.

Platner has largely disappeared from the spotlight since his exit from the Senate race, focusing instead on his oystering work. While some locals see him as a regular again, others remain critical of his past actions and the controversy surrounding his campaign.
