Vice President JD Vance turned a parenting mishap into a sharp critique of Democrats during a Monday rally in Rome, New York, as Republicans prepare for the midterm elections. The event, part of a broader campaign to boost Republican candidates, saw Vance and President Donald Trump supporting local candidates ahead of Tuesday’s voting.

Vance opened his remarks with a family story, a common theme in his speeches, recounting an incident where he asked his daughter to find toys to donate. The story took an unexpected turn when the daughter brought her brother’s toys instead, prompting a lighthearted moment of self-deprecation.

“I’d like you to identify maybe a couple of toys you’d like to donate here,” he told his daughter, who will turn five in December. “So she brings me two of her brother’s toys!” The crowd laughed as Vance admitted, “I realized that despite my best efforts, ladies and gentlemen, I have apparently raised a Democrat… stealing her brother’s toys to give to somebody else.” The audience erupted in laughter and applause, setting the stage for a political punchline.

Vance quickly pivoted to the campaign’s main message, saying, “And that’s what we’ve got to do in just one day is beat the Democrats and win for America!” His call to action resonated with the crowd, reinforcing the Republican strategy to mobilize voters in key battleground states.

Alongside the House races, New York will also vote on the governor’s race, where incumbent Kathy Hochul faces Republican challenger Bruce Blakeman, and the attorney general race, with Letitia James up against Samantha Komatireddy. The state’s electoral outcomes could significantly influence the balance of power in Congress.

Vance concluded his remarks with a strong call to vote, emphasizing the importance of defending the United States against what he described as the threat of Democratic policies. “We are fighting for people who love the United States of America, not those who hate it!” he said, urging Republicans to make their stance clear on election day.
