Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant is calling for a thorough investigation by the Southlake Police Department after being cited for assault in a recent incident. The 37-year-old athlete spoke with OutKick about the event, which occurred in a Mexican restaurant parking lot in Texas.
Confrontation in Parking Lot
Bryant claimed he had a confrontation with two drivers after they allegedly cut him off on the road. He stated that he was attempting to warn them about safer driving when an argument broke out. According to Bryant, one of the drivers, a young adult, threatened to shoot him.
Bryant told OutKick that he responded by telling the man, “if you don’t [draw a weapon], I’m going to do something to you.” The man, however, never actually drew a weapon but instead pulled out his phone to record Bryant. In response, Bryant knocked the phone out of his hand.

Bryant said the individual then called the police, which he was fine with, believing the officers would take his side due to the alleged threat. When the police arrived, an officer held all three men at gunpoint, told them to get down on the ground, and placed them in handcuffs.
Bryant’s girlfriend eventually arrived at the scene with both of his daughters and began recording the incident. She later provided the footage to OutKick, offering further insight into the confrontation.
Bryant is now calling for a full investigation into the incident, suggesting that the police response was excessive and that the situation warrants further scrutiny. His comments highlight ongoing tensions between athletes and law enforcement, as well as the complexities of self-defense and public safety.
