On Tuesday morning, bomb threats led to the evacuation of polling sites at several schools in Toledo, Ohio, and surrounding areas, disrupting the voting process. Voters at Beverly Elementary School were ordered to leave the building after a threat was reported, prompting emergency crews and law enforcement to respond swiftly.

Threats Prompt Evacuations and Safety Measures

Emergency crews, including K-9 units, were deployed to the polling site located at 3548 S. Detroit Avenue. The threat was initially reported at Beverly Elementary School, with officials confirming the school received the warning. Witnesses told 13 Action News that voting was delayed as the situation was being addressed. Voters were eventually allowed to resume voting inside the school shortly after noon.

Another bomb threat was reported at Monac Elementary School in Toledo. Lucas County Board of Elections Director Lavera Scott initially stated that additional voting machines were being brought to the school, and voters would cast their ballots outside. However, voting resumed inside the school after the building was deemed safe.

Four other area schools also received threats, including Conneaut Elementary and Kenwood Elementary in Bowling Green, as well as Lake Local Schools. Local police conducted sweeps of the buildings, and students and staff returned after the locations were confirmed to be secure.

Officials Coordinate to Resume Voting Safely

Ohio’s Secretary of State emphasized that election officials worked closely with local law enforcement to secure the location, address the threat, and safely resume voting. Extra voting machines were brought in to accommodate voters during the disruption.

While the incidents caused temporary delays, officials ensured that voting could continue without compromising safety. The situation highlights the challenges of maintaining secure and efficient election processes in the face of unexpected threats.
