A new poll commissioned by a Republican group has revealed that a majority of Michigan voters hold an unfavorable view of Democratic Senate nominee Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed, also known as Abdul El-Sayed. According to the survey, 50.4 percent of voters view El-Sayed unfavorably, compared to 39.8 percent who view him favorably.
DSA Ties Influence Voter Perception
The survey, obtained by the Washington Reporter, highlights that El-Sayed’s ties to the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) have a negative impact on his standing. When respondents were told of his history with the group, 52.7 percent said it would make them less likely to vote for him. The DSA itself also faces a net negative rating, with 51.9 percent of voters viewing the organization unfavorably.
Rogers Maintains Narrow Lead
Republican Mike Rogers maintains a narrow lead in the Senate race, with 44.4 percent of voters supporting him compared to El-Sayed’s 43.1 percent. The survey’s margin of error is 4.7 points, meaning the race remains closely contested. Third-party candidates accounted for 3.9 percent of the vote, with 8.5 percent of voters undecided.
Economic Concerns Top Voter Priorities
The poll also found that economic concerns are the top priority for voters, with 52.6 percent naming the economy and prices as the most important issue facing the country. This aligns with recent public sentiment, where economic issues have consistently been a focal point in political discourse.
Contradictions in El-Sayed’s Campaign
El-Sayed, who has drawn scrutiny over his association with streamer Hasan Piker, a figure known for his pro-9/11 views, has publicly stated that he does not identify as a democratic socialist. Despite this, his campaign continues to face challenges, particularly with the DSA’s negative public perception.
Recent Polls vs. This Survey
The results of this poll contrast with recent public surveys that showed El-Sayed leading in the race. A Washington Post–Schar School poll released last week gave him a narrow edge, while surveys from Emerson College and Rasmussen Reports showed him ahead by two and three points, respectively.
Methodology of the Survey
Torchlight Strategies conducted the survey by interviewing 643 likely voters through live and text-to-web interviews from September 15 to 19. The methodology underscores the survey’s reliability and relevance to the current political climate in Michigan.
