Weinstein Plans Libertarian Party Takeover for Massie 2028 Bid
Bret Weinstein aims to rebrand Libertarian Party and recruit Thomas Massie for 2028 presidential run.

Former Evergreen State professor Bret Weinstein has announced plans to take over the Libertarian Party to advance a presidential campaign for outgoing Republican Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie. The move comes after Massie lost his primary election to Ed Gallrein, a retired Navy SEAL and Trump-endorsed candidate, in May.
Libertarian Party Rebranding Plan
In two clips from the Dark Horse Podcast posted on X, Weinstein outlined his strategy for a “friendly takeover” of the Libertarian Party, aiming to rebrand it as the American Liberty Party. The goal is to recruit Massie for a 2028 presidential bid, highlighting his “integrity” in Washington, D.C.
Bret Weinstein announces he is partnering with the Libertarian Party Mises Caucus for a friendly takeover of the party to rebrand it as @ALPNational: “The new home for the America First movement.” @BretWeinstein calls on supporters of the strategy to sign up, because there are honorable figures on the left and right who will embrace the strategy if the public supports it. “The idea is a friendly takeover of the Libertarian Party,” Weinstein said. “I’m partnering with the Mises Caucus, the sort of hard-headed folks who have libertarian values but are also frustrated by the way the party functions. And the idea is to take over the Libertarian Party and to rebrand it the American Liberty Party.”
Massie’s Political Struggles
Massie, who was seeking his ninth term in the House of Representatives, was one of four Republicans who signed a discharge petition to force a vote on the Epstein Files Transparency Act. The bill passed the House with just one “no” vote. However, Massie faced significant challenges during his tenure, including clashes with the Trump administration over tariff policy, the One, Big, Beautiful Bill, and the Iran conflict.

“You will notice at the top there is a, we don’t use the term draft Massie here, it says recruit Massie here,” Weinstein said. “So Massie is obviously somebody who has paid a very high price for his integrity in the public sphere. He’s lost a primary with the president and a large amount of money deployed against him and anyway, I am not suggesting that he has signed on to do this. What I am suggesting is that he’s aware of it and is supportive of what we are doing.”
Massie’s Recent Political Moves
Massie joined former Fox News host Tucker Carlson and former Republican Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene in signing an open letter in September criticizing Trump and HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. over the handling of the pandemic. The trio also met in August to promote a new political movement, accusing Trump of betraying voters with his Iran policy.
Massie has filed to run in 2028 for the House seat he lost in May. His political journey has been marked by both achievements and challenges, making him a potential candidate for a new political movement led by Weinstein.
