Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is facing growing political pressure after it was revealed that his wife, Jennifer Hegseth, was paid by a Washington-based lobbying firm while he served in his top Pentagon role. The financial disclosure has intensified scrutiny from Democratic lawmakers, who are already targeting Trump administration officials for investigations.

Democrats Push for Hegseth’s Removal

Rep. Chris Delusio (D-PA) has called for Hegseth to resign over his handling of the war in Iran, stating he plans to push for “real oversight” and potentially impeach him if President Trump does not fire him. Similarly, Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO) has vowed to “be relentless” in removing Hegseth from the Pentagon, accusing him of undermining national security and the safety of troops.

“Everything from threatening to do live executions, via live stream, to disparaging women and folks of color, and undermining our national security at every turn,” Crow said in an angry social media video. “I’m going to be relentless night and day to get him out of the Pentagon and to restore the culture of respect and diversity in our military.”

Hegseth’s Wife Tied to Trump-Linked Lobbying Firm

Jennifer Hegseth, a former Fox News executive and media strategist for her husband, was reportedly paid an undisclosed sum by a top Trump-connected lobbying firm that has worked with defense contractors like Lockheed Martin. The firm, Watchtower, defended its relationship with Jennifer Hegseth, stating she has not interfaced with any clients or provided advice on defense matters.

“Jen has assisted us in navigating conservative TV media, and we appreciate her help,” said a spokesperson for Watchtower. “She has not interfaced with any clients nor does she provide any advice to Watchtower on defense matters.”

Chief Pentagon Spokesman Sean Parnell asserted that Hegseth and his wife are in full compliance with all ethics laws and regulations, emphasizing their focus on serving warfighters, President Trump, and the American people.

Political Fallout and Calls for Transparency

As Democratic subpoenas are expected to follow, any perceived misconduct could lead to intense scrutiny. Former Rep. Matt Gaetz criticized the situation, stating, “Wives of Cabinet members shouldn’t be paid by lobbyists.” He added that he would have exposed the same “wrongdoing” if it were the wife of Biden’s Defense Secretary, Lloyd Austin.
